REDBULL - Dance City Guide: Toronto

When Justin reached out to me in the late spring saying he had a potential Redbull project I knew it was going to be something good! Redbull as a company has a very free flowing hands off approach to their media content. Which is rarely seen with big brands these days. They let the creatives BE creative, asking minimal questions if any. They put all their trust in their artists and I really respect that. It was a great feeling knowing we could push and pull this project in any direction we desired.

With that being said, this project wasn’t something new so we had a few other Dance City Guides to get the framework from. Justin and I really wanted to push the envelope and make this as cinematic as possible. Of course keeping true to their dance city guild layout but also give the audience a story to follow.

So it was one of the first swelteringly hot weekends of the summer, 30C felt like 130C, in blasting sun all day. It’s safe to say after a two days of non stop gimbal work that I was a puddle 🥵 BUT that did make for amazing natural light in almost every shot.

We scouted all over the Toronto for hours, figuring out how we can showcase the most diverse parts of Toronto, in a tight tight shooting schedule. Shoutout to the Sun Seeker App which made scheduling location for the most optimal sun a breeze 👌🏼

Konatsu & Onton are professionals through and through. Always on, always adapting to the ever changing requests we threw at them but also always having fun every step of the way.
